Ferment
Ferment explores the parallels between preservation and memory through the Korean "hang-a-ri"—a traditional earthenware pot used to ferment kimchi and soybean paste over time. Just as fermentation transforms raw ingredients into something deeply flavorful, my relationship with childhood memories has matured with age.
This sculptural installation holds fragments of my early years—photographs I couldn't recall until my parents recently shared their stories behind each image. What emerged wasn't just my own nostalgia, but a deeper understanding of my parents' experiences and sacrifices during that time. Like fermented food that develops complexity through patient waiting, these memories have ripened into something more profound than their original moments.
